Cargo Ballast Handling Simulator – Liquefied Petroleum Gas

This course is based on International Maritime Organization (IMO) Model Course 1.35 which aims to facilitate training of trainees to meet the applicable mandatory minimum standard of competence in advanced training for liquefied gas tanker cargo operations as specified in Table A-V/1-2-2 of the STCW Code, in particular for LPG cargo and ballast operation using approved simulator training.

Learning Outcomes

Trainees who successfully complete the course should be able to demonstrate their competence as stated above, including:

  • performing cargo handling on board an LPG tanker during normal emergency operations;
  • a greater awareness of the need for proper pre-planning, the use of checklist and timescales involved in the various LPG cargo and/or ballast handling operations;
  • an enhanced awareness of the need to apply proper and safe procedures at all times when carrying out the various operations on board an LPG tanker;
  • an acquisition of experience in identifying typical cargo – and/or ballast-related operational problems (and solving them) on board an LPG tanker and;
  • an improvement in the ability to make decisions which promote safety and protect the marine environment
