Bridge Team Management

The course aims this training program to deal with team management in highly operational situation in board ship’s engine rooms and in control rooms of power plants. The basis for this course was developed in the airline industry as a result of research which showed that most accidents are caused not by technical errors but by crew management errors.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the student shall be able to:

  • Gain experience in handling ships under various conditions and will make a more effective contribution to the bridge team during ship maneuvering;
  • Assist the ship’s master and chief engineer manage the vessel’s bridge and engine team for each voyage so personnel are rested, trained and prepared to handle any situation;
  • Help recognize workload demands and other risk factors that may affect decisions in setting watch conditions;
  • Ensure bridge team members are trained and aware of their responsibilities;
  • Help bridge and engine team members interact with support to the chief engineer
