This course provides an in-depth understanding of ballast water management practices and treatment systems. It covers the regulatory requirements, techniques, technologies and best practices associated with the safe and efficient management of ballast water to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the participants will be able to:
- Familiarize participants with international and national regulations governing ballast water treatment
- Minimize the risk of introducing harmful aquatic organisms & pathogens from ship’s ballast water & associated sediments while protecting ship’s safety
- Discuss the ecological, economical, & human health impacts of these invasive marine species from ballast water
- Develop practical skills for implementing effective ballast water management plans onboard vessels.
