Refresher Course on Advanced Training for Services on Ships Subject to the IGF Code

This Refresher Course on Advanced Training for Services on Ships Subject to IGF Code is designed for seafarers holding the corresponding Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) who, under Regulation V/3, paragraph 12 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended, are required to undertake refresher training to provide evidence of having maintained the required standards of competence at intervals not exceeding five (5) years from the date of CoP issuance.

Learning Outcomes

This course aims to ensure continued professional competence of seafarers holding CoP in Advanced Training for Service on Ships Subject to the IGF Code.

Specifically, by the end of the course, the trainees must be able to:

  • familiarize with physical and chemical properties of fuels aboard ships subject to the IGF Code;
  • operate controls of fuel related to propulsion plant and engineering systems and services and safety devices on ships subject to the IGF Code;
  • perform and monitor all operations related to the fuels used on board ships subject to the IGF Code;
  • plan and monitor safe bunkering, stowage and securing of the fuel on board ships subject to the IGF Code;
  • take precautions to prevent pollution of the environment from the release of fuels from ships subject to the IGF Code;
  • monitor and control compliance with legislative requirements;
  • take precautions to prevent hazards;
  • apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures on board a ship subject to the IGF Code; and
  • prevent, control, and fire-fighting and extinguishing systems on board ships subject to the IGF Code.

Course Requirements

  • This course is open to masters, engineer officers, and all personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of fuels and fuel system on ships subject to the IGF seeking to revalidate their Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) in Advanced Training for Services on Ships Subject to the IGF Code, in accordance with Regulation V/3, paragraph 12 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended.
  • Trainees enrolling in this course must be medically fit to fully engage in all aspects of the training, particularly the practical exercises.
