Updating Course on Basic Training - Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities

This Updating Course on Basic Training – Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (BT-PSSR) covers the new competence and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Table A-VI/1-4, Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Convention,1978, as amended, and pursuant to Resolution MSC.560 (108), adopted on 23 May 2024 by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organization.

Learning Outcomes

This course aims to provide the trainees with the new Competence and the corresponding Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency (KUPs) for all seafarers assigned to shipboard duties as required under amended Table A-VI/1-4, Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.

Specifically, at the end of the course the trainee must be able to contribute to the prevention of and response to violence and harassment, including sexual harassment, bullying and sexual assault.

Course Requirements

This course is open to seafarers who are holders of a Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Basic Training issued before 01 January 2026 or Certificate of Training Completion in Basic Training issued before November 01, 2025, and must be medically fit to fully engage in all aspects of the training.
