Refresher Course on Basic Training for Services on Ships Subject to the IGF Code

This Refresher Course on Basic Training for Service on Ships Subject to the IGF Code is designed for seafarers holding the corresponding Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) who, under Regulation V/3, paragraph 12 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended, are required to undertake refresher training to provide evidence of having maintained the required standards of competence at intervals not exceeding five (5) years from the date of COP issuance.

Learning Outcomes

This course aims to ensure continued professional competence of seafarers holding CoP in Basic Training for Service on Ships Subject to the IGF Code.

Specifically, by the end of the course, trainees must be able to:

  • contribute to the safe operation of a ship subject to the IGF Code;
  • take precautions to prevent hazards on a ship subject to IGF Code;
  • apply occupational health and safety precautions and measures;
  • carry out firefighting operations on a ship subject to the IGF Code;
  • respond to emergencies; and,
  • take precautions to prevent environmental pollution from fuel releases on ships subject to the IGF Code

Course Requirements

  • This course is open to seafarers seeking to revalidate their Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) in Basic Training for Service on Ships Subject to the IGF Code, in accordance with Regulation V/3, paragraph 12 of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended.

  • Trainees enrolling in this course must be medically fit to fully engage in all aspects of the training, particularly the practical exercises.
